Disordered Time

This video work aims to visualise quantum time. It is inspired by Giacomo Balla’s 1912 painting Dog on a Leash which used multiplication and blurring to show moments in time.

​

At subatomic levels time can exist in multiple states simultaneously while also moving forward and backwards.

 

In this work a cat is engaged in exploratory actions within a universe where time is not smooth and continuous. Initially just the outline is shown, only the actions and none of the identity of the moving animal, trailing into repeated lines. Gradually a clear depiction of the creature emerges, but now broken into a chain of slices showing the body's movement breaking in time and physical space.
